Welcome to Kalgoorlie for the Esperance Bay Turf Club Mdn over 1200m on a good4 track under overcast skies, where the punters have sorted out an interesting 3UP maiden field. Looking at the early win market order, Budino sits at the top of the betting boards, closely followed by Filling With Water, Vivalda, Hard To Top, Carbarlott, and Deserted Artie rounding out the pack as they prepare to jump at 5:10 pm AEDT. It is a tricky puzzle for racegoers looking to kick off the meeting with a collect.

Taking a closer look at the form behind those shorter prices, market leader Budino is drawn in barrier 1 for trainer P J Fernie with Lucy F Fiore in the saddle. Budino brings a close-up effort at Belmont Park back in September and has joined the Fernie yard after previously being with D & B Pearce, making this local switch worth noting. Filling With Water starts right alongside in barrier 2 for the same stable, with Jason Li taking a 3kg claim to steer. Filling With Water copped an awkward run last time out here when sent forward and getting flat-footed, but should strip fitter second-up from the ace draw. Vivalda is another from the Fernie stable sitting near the head of calculations in barrier 4 with Laqdar Ramoly, catching the eye with blinkers going on after not being disgraced at this venue last start.

For punters hunting further down the win market order, Hard To Top brings plenty of experience with 31 starts under its belt and jumps from barrier 6 for trainer Mack Hall and jockey Austin Galati. Hard To Top put in a strong run from the back half last start when finishing second at Moora over 1190m, showing it can rattle home when the race is run to suit, though it tackles the Kalgoorlie circuit for the very first time. With speed mapped across different parts of the track from Filling With Water taking up the running to Hard To Top on the pace, this maiden provides plenty of yarns for a keen eye.
