Race preview

Moruya's fourth race is a country maiden handicap over 1010 metres in soft conditions with showers falling at 2:45 pm AEST. The race has already jumped. Czech Me is shortest in the market, followed by De Razilly, then Rebel Terra and Aerialize. This is a tight affair across the top few in the betting, which tells you the form is bunched and there's genuine scope for a well-backed outsider.

Czech Me profiles as the obvious candidate at shortest odds. The Luke Pepper runner maps perfectly from barrier 1 on pace and has shown early speed that suits this circuit—a genuine advantage on Moruya. Last start at Hawkesbury, it ran second on debut over 1000 metres, finishing close enough to suggest the step to 1010 metres will suit. The form line from that run reads promising for a second-up maiden. De Razilly, resuming after 71 weeks, has earned plenty of market respect and for good reason. Coriah Keatings is a jockey running 27 per cent above market expectations in their last 100 rides, and at Sapphire Coast last campaign, De Razilly was placed at both runs—including a near miss over this exact distance in similar soft ground. The Naroomi track record should favour a fresh horse with that pedigree coming back.

Aerialize sits fourth-up in the market but runs for trainer A L Mcrae and jockey Damon Budler, a combination outperforming market expectations by 45 per cent. The barrier draw at 3 sets up the Leader beautifully against a small field, and a narrow miss at Corowa suggests scope for another crack. Rebel Terra, despite no race form, has family credentials worth noting—half-brother to Knights Reign, a Launceston maiden winner—and trialled respectably at Goulburn. Worth watching the betting moves there.
