Townsville hosts a maiden plate over the mile on a soft track this afternoon, with Blazing Future shortest in the market ahead of Auzangate and In The Hole Tiger. The field shapes as a genuine affair across soft going, with a spread of runners likely to be competitive. Auzangate maps as the lone leader and ran a strong second here over this distance last start on Good 4 going, beaten just over a length. That effort suggests the horse is trending the right way and can dictate terms from the front if conditions suit. Blazing Future, meanwhile, is backing up quickly under new trainer Belynda Kliese after two tidy runs that have caught plenty of attention. The gelding ran a head-bobber second at this track over 1400 metres and has ridden the speed in both outings—a recipe that often works when there's tempo in a race.

Blazing Future's form line carries real substance. Rating 100 and winning 26 per cent of the place of totalisator with jockey Chris Whiteley, the pair have built genuine momentum. The comment notes two good runs under the new trainer, and that head-bobber loss suggests the horse is knocking on the door. Auzangate, rated 77, has shown improvement off a fourth-up run and carries a hot jockey-trainer combo with Ryan Wiggins and D K Amos winning 30 per cent of the POT in their last 100 races. If Auzangate can lead and get favourable splits, that short-priced profile looks inviting. In The Hole Tiger rounds out the top three and gets Anthony Allen, whose recent form shows the rider outperforming market expectation by 30 per cent, though the gelding hasn't fired a win yet and is rated 76.

Nobel Peace warrants a closer look further down. On a quick back-up after a fourth-place finish over 1400 metres two weeks ago, the four-year-old steps out for only the second time and has shown benefit from the experience. Rated 82 and with Ashley Butler riding, the horse maps well at this track and outperforms market expectations by 9 per cent from its lane. The longer trip should suit, and with only one run under the belt previously, there's genuine upside if the tempo runs genuine. The maiden plate profile suggests a race decided by pace setup and runner fitness—Blazing Future and Auzangate look the logical ammunition, though Nobel Peace offers value for punters keen to dig deeper.
