Welcome to Townsville for the Signature Glass and Aluminium Handicap over the sharp 1000m dash on a Soft 5 track under overcast skies. The punters have sized up this Open sprint nicely, getting behind Russian Mint as the early elect. Chasing hard at the top of the win market order are Hartshorn, Roweiner's Dance, and Admitted, setting us up for a fascinating tactical battle across the short trip.

Russian Mint brings some appealing recent form to the table, having captured a 1000m Open here two starts ago before finding the 1300m Cleveland Bay a bit too far last time out; the drop back in distance should suit T Button's charge nicely. Meanwhile, Hartshorn is backing up quickly after a reasonable effort in a BM70 over this course and previously took out an Open Handicap here in early October, meaning S J Royes' runner knows this track inside out and handles a quick turnaround. Roweiner's Dance resumes after a seventeen-week spell with Julie Busuttin steering from barrier five, boasting a stellar record of sixteen wins from thirty-four starts and a handy reputation for firing fresh.

Looking at the broader speed map, Admitted is marked as the leader from barrier four and will look to put a disappointing run at Ewan behind them, while Sowilo Siren maps as a backmarker from gate two, hoping to weave through if the leaders overdo it upfront. With proven performers like Russian Mint dropping in distance and seasoned local sprinters ready to rumble, it should be a cracking yarn on the quick back-up.

ILB

Goes well first up. Honest run on the speed before fading to finish 3rd last time at Home Hill and proven performer at this trip in the past. Will not be far away.

Has a good record over course and distance (13 wins from 23 runs) and normally pretty consistent; far from disgraced (beaten just over 2l, Home Hill) four months ago in a conditions race; has to be feared as he goes well fresh.

Has multiple wins when resuming. Was overpowered late when 3rd last time at Home Hill and hard to fault at this trip. Displays good tactical pace. Will go close.
