Welcome to Mortlake for the Banquet Angus benchmark 56 handicap over 2000m on a soft 5 surface with overcast skies, jumping at 5:26 pm AEDT. The win market lines up with Princess Sakiko sitting at the head of affairs, followed closely in the order by Kingsford, Semper Fortis, and Julep rounding out the early fancies in what looks a tactical middle-distance battle.

Princess Sakiko brings solid recent credentials after a determined win at Avoca over 1860m, and despite rising in weight, the stable combination teams up strongly here with Linda Meech steering from barrier 2. Kingsford drops back to a much more suitable class after going around at Horsham and Warrnambool, and the inside gate gives Zac Moore every chance to stalk the speed. Julep is another coming off a fresh victory on the quick back-up, breaking through at St Arnaud over this exact 2000m trip with Dean Yendall retaining the mount.

Further down the order, Semper Fortis arrives race-fit following a honest placing at Avoca and could offer some cheek at odds from barrier 9 for Symon Wilde and Neil Farley. Speed maps suggest Julep will look to take up the running early from out wide, while runners like Unamerican and Bell's Bighouse will likely drift back and look to flash home late in the yarn.
