Race preview

Welcome to Mount Gambier for the Festival Hire Benchmark 62 over the 1200m journey on a Soft 5 track with fine weather overhead. The local punters have been sorting through the yarn of this race nicely, with Moonraker sitting right at the top of the win market order. Chasing hard right behind the favourite is Port Louis, followed by Supreme Thunder and Lady Memphis rounding out the early market fancies as they head towards the barriers for this 3:20 pm AEDT jump.

Looking closely at the form line for the market elect, Moonraker is prepared by Daniel Bowman and will be steered by Melissa Julius from barrier seven with 60.5kg on board. This galloper comes here following a solid effort at Geelong before a placing at Warrnambool on a heavy track, and the signs suggest stepping up to this trip will suit. Meanwhile, Denis Daffy and Harriet Place saddle up Port Louis from barrier six under Campbell Rawiller, carrying the big weight of 62kg. This seasoned performer wasn't disgraced at Coleraine two starts back and already holds a proven track and distance winning record that keeps him right in the mix for an even break of luck.

Further down the order, the speed map shows a busy on-pace group featuring Port Louis alongside Anrushka, Melissa Kate, and Squagaga, while Moonraker looks to take up the running from the leader's lane. Supreme Thunder ticks the fresh box nicely for trainer Jamie Opperman, resuming here after a seventeen-week spell with a handy first-up record of two wins from six attempts. If the speed on up front gets too hot, watch for those backmarkers to loom large when it counts.
