Welcome to Orange for the Pirtek Orange Hcp Class 1 over 1400m on a Good 4 track under fine skies, timed to jump at 2:45 pm AEDT. Looking at how punters are treating the win market, Macaroon holds down the top spot in the betting order, closely followed by Dundeel Flyer and The Contractor. Dunwithya sits next in the queue as we get ready for a fascinating tactical battle across the middle distances this afternoon.

Taking a look at the form behind those shorter prices, Macaroon comes here for trainer Bjorn Baker and jockey Amber Riddell after a huge win here over 1300m where the runner bided time at the rear before letting down smartly. That followed a solid minor placing at Bathurst, and knowing this track well already suggests this runner could go on with it now. Dundeel Flyer lines up for Danielle Seib from barrier eight with Pierre Boudvillain steering, having broken maiden ranks at Goulburn before keeping on nicely for the minor spoils in a skinny line-up at Cootamundra last time out. Meanwhile, The Contractor draws barrier five for David J Smith and Clayton Gallagher, looking to peak third-up after going home tamely at Narromine.

Digging a bit deeper into the speed map and runners further down the order, the early pace should be interesting with Macaroon tagged as the leader while The Contractor, Dunwithya, and Devil's Reach all inject speed from their onpace lanes. Dunwithya starts for Natalie Jarvis from barrier one with the blinkers coming off, looking to bounce back after going through choppy conditions at Moruya last start. Encyclopedia brings plenty of local track experience to the table from barrier seven for Michael Plummer, though punters will note the lengthy winless prep as it searches for a turnaround in form.

Third outing for new trainer/ this region. Went home tamely in choppy conditions at Moruya at $21. Not out of this.

ILB

Didn't attack the line when 9th last start at Moruya. Overlooking the last run and has drawn the rails. Jockey Damon Budler and trainer Natalie Jarvis deserve serious attention. Worth a serious look.

Been a while since he managed only win; beaten 7l at Moruya over 6f (handicap) dropped back in distance two weeks ago; a lot on his plate here and looks an unlikely winner.

Odds of $10.00 and had difficulty when 4th last time at Young but gets some weight taken off. Simply cannot have today.

Last of four at Young nine days ago upped to 1m; just the one victory on his CV; probably unlikely to trouble the principals with this looking like a hot contest.
