Port Lincoln kicks off race 8 on a good track under fine skies at 5:10 pm AEDT, and this Benchmark 68 handicap over 1350 metres has the win market leaning hard on Raikoke, with Chef Militaire next shortest, followed by There Goes My Hero and Georgiegina. The speed is set up for early moves: Chef Militaire leads, while Raikoke, Monarchs Brae and Cleitus sit onpace, leaving a cohort of offpace runners and backmarkers to chase home.

Raikoke looks a curious favourite given the signals. Caitlyn Munro's booking represents a negative rider change, and the Wayne Brown camp are posting minus 100 per cent POT across their last 100 races—a brutal stretch. Still, last start Raikoke showed guts, leading and digging deep to be shaded late over this trip at this track on a good surface, and the rating sits at 100. Chef Militaire, by contrast, has form that stacks up. Ryan Dawson's runner owns a hot jockey-trainer combo outperforming market by 387 per cent, and Ashlee Stone pilots a genuine quick finisher with the fastest overall sectionals last outing. Georgiegina deserves a squiz at odds. The jockey-trainer pairing with M A White is humming, outperforming market by 99 per cent, and gate 2 is a gift from the barrier draw. Not disgraced on soft going here second-up, and backed up with a second at Port Lincoln over a mile on good ground. The stable's going well, so trust that signal. Punters chasing value might find there's a story worth following in how Chef Militaire's finishing kick pairs with that early speed map—sometimes the yarn writes itself.
