Snow Monkey (9)

Northam's running a 1100-metre maiden for three-year-olds and up on Good (4) going at 6:45 pm AEDT, and the market has Snow Monkey as the punter's pick, with Don't Declare next shortest and Calltex third in the betting. It's a debut field with enough form to tell a story — a couple of recent Northam runners, some trial graduates, and a couple of stayers on the quick back-up. The yard angles point to some runners being heavily out of favour on their last few efforts, so punters who've watched form lines closely may spot value buried in this one.
Snow Monkey, the market leader carrying 54 kg, has done the hard yards at Northam before — just missing in Maiden company here at this 1100-metre trip off an extended break, and the notes say he'll be sharper for that outing. He's got early speed going for him too, which suits this circuit, and he ran on hard last start to nearly get there. His rating sits at 100, the highest in the field. Don't Declare, from Simon Miller's yard with William Pike in the saddle, is on a strong run as a rider, outperforming career average return on investment by 25 per cent in his last hundred rides. He's 0–1–1 from four career runs and trialled over 1000 metres at Belmont before running respectably at Ascot 15 November. First-up runs haven't been kind to his record, but that Ascot effort gives reason to keep him close. Calltex, making his debut, trials 1–0–1 across four trial starts with some decent work in the Belmont trial ground; Laqdar Ramoly stays aboard for his racing bow.
Playa Del Sol from barrier eight maps into the Leader group and has been outperforming market expectations by 23 per cent in her lane at this track — she was $5 when battling home second at Bunbury over 1100 metres on Good (4) in her last start, showing enough courage. The form line there suggests she's competitive in maiden company, though she's 0–2–0 first and second-up off the track. The jockey and trainer combo has a cold run lately, down 30 per cent, which is worth noting. Gets The Girls hasn't fired — Graeme Ballantyne's yard is striking at just 2 per cent — and the Trainer A2E sits 69 per cent below market. It's a tough maiden, but the top two in the market both have genuine claims on form and recent work.

Resuming (15-weeks). Form sound last campaign. Gave good sight at Belmont Park 1 Jul. Looked forward enough in latest trial.
ILB
Fresh after a break. Good run when finishing 3rd beaten by 1 1/2L last start at Kalgoorlie and has a positive gate. Still in maiden grade after 28 runs. Will need to lift.

On the premises when third of eight over 6f at Kalgoorlie (maiden) four months ago; yet to open his account after 28 starts; been struggling to get his head in front recently so hard enough to fancy.

First-up (26-weeks). Form to date fair. Gave good sight at Ascot 15 Nov. Just managed the one outing last prep.
ILB
Back from a 26 week spell. Ran 3rd last time at Ascot and drops back to a suitable grade. William Pike is a key booking. Commands respect.
RP
Winless in four starts but has shown promise with second his top showing; came up a bit short, beaten 1½l when favourite, over 5f at Ascot (handicap) in April; returns from a layoff here; booking of William Pike takes the eye; should not be far away.
RSIS
Resuming after a break of 26 weeks. Looked good when 3rd last start at Ascot and has been racing in stronger company. William Pike rates highly aboard and drawn beautifully. Strong claims.

ILB
Jumped at $5.00 and couldn't stay in touch when 4th last time at Bunbury but down in distance. Should come to hand quickly. Could be in the mix.
RP
Not beaten that far in fourth (4½l) at Bunbury three weeks ago upped to 7f; signs of improvement on last two runs but yet to get off the mark and losing run stands at nine; this line-up contains some strong opposition so others more persuasive.
RSIS
At 4/1 lost momentum late when 4th last start at Bunbury but dropping back to a shorter trip. Should be going forward early. Watch the betting.
