The Hahn Country Boosted Showcase Maiden Plate at Taree on the quick back-up is a 1000-metre tussle over soft going with overcast conditions overhead. The track's rated a SOFT7, which should suit some of this field nicely. In the win market stakes, Seaton Moon is shortest, with Cerano Magic next door and Cecil Peak following. Kobi Express and Sunny Quarters complete the tightening of the favour. It's a race where punters reckon fresh prospects and trial form have genuine shape—several runners are just stepping out for their first start proper.

Seaton Moon's on the short end after a pleasing trial run at Canberra, placing second over 900 metres on good going just recently. The $70k purchase is out of a stakes-placed mare with ten wins to her name, and that bloodline counts for something in an unproven field. Coriah Keatings gets the ride. Cerano Magic has trialled and raced once, showing promise in a barrier trial at Tuncurry over the same distance before trailing home at Grafton last time out. Madeline Owen stays aboard, and the form comment flags that fast finishing sectionals from the last start suggest this one's a genuine late runner—the data also hints that she can motor early. Fresh off the trials, there's development to come physically.

Kobi Express shapes as the story of the form line. Grace Palmer partners the runner, who's won twice from nine starts and just missed at Bowraville over this exact metre when short odds at a good track. The Bowraville effort was hard-fought and came with a narrow margin, building a genuine case for another tilt at maiden company. Samantha Mcguren's stable is firing at the moment—56 per cent above market expectation across recent runners—and that's worth noting for the craft in the yard. Sunny Quarters and Sweet Marlene both map to take an active role early, sharing a leader's lane. Cecil Peak managed a trial win at Scone after just one outing, though the awkward barrier might work against natural advantage, leaving the betting to tell clearer tales as the field approaches the gates.

On a quick back-up. Rider found a forward spot at Port Macquarie but he put in a very lacklustre finish over longer test. Drops to shorter trip. Outsider and rightly so.

Backing up quickly. Jumped at $101.00 and clearly outclassed when 10th last start at Port Macquarie and will be facing a significant drop in distance. Needs too much luck.

Held when tenth beaten 7l over 7½f at Port Macquarie (handicap) last Saturday; yet to open his account after ten starts and recent form hardly the most inspiring; is passed over.

First up after 16 weeks and tidy run when 2nd first up last preparation at Port Macquarie. Has early speed and positions nicely. Definitely worth considering.

Still winless and defeats stacking up (21 on the bounce) and form lately has been a mixed bag; beaten sixth of ten in a handicap four months ago; not hard to turn elsewhere as hits the crossbar all too often.
