Race preview

Wyong is set up nicely for Maiden company over 1625 metres on a Good 4 track under fine conditions at 3:40 pm AEDT. The win market leans on Ratify as the shortest-priced runner, with Made In Italy next out, followed by Forsaken and Victorious Ruler. There is a spread across the field here — classic maiden racing where the gaps between contenders are narrow and the form lines tell conflicting stories.

Ratify shapes as the early favourite, and the numbers back some appeal. A fast finisher with the quickest final sectionals at the last outing, this runner also has early speed to work with on this circuit — a genuine advantage at Wyong. Drawn wide at barrier 11, that's a tricky gate, and the weight is rising, but a Rating 81 suggests competitive ability. The run back at Rosehill over 1400 metres came after a lengthy absence, and Ratify was reined back from that wide draw before finding room late to hit the frame. On the quick back-up over the extra 225 metres, and with genuine early speed to use, there is a form narrative worth following. Made In Italy sits next, and this one's Warwick Farm run last start at 1600 metres is a legitimate pointer. Ran on hard from the back over today's trip on a Soft 6, then backed that up with a narrow second at Newcastle in a females' maiden. A Rating 100 is the highest in the race. The form suggests this one can genuinely run a place, and the comment flags competitive type.

Victorious Ruler deserves consideration further down the order. Jockey Rachel King is running 25 per cent ahead of her career average over the last hundred rides — that is real edge. Victorious Ruler was second at Hawkesbury over 1600 metres in rain-affected going on the second-up run, very honest and prominent throughout, just going down by a whisker. That near-miss in a strong showing suggests a win is close. The honest form line and the jockey momentum make this an opinion-based roughie case, particularly if weather remains fine and Victorious Ruler can lead or sit close in the Leader group.
