Race preview

Randwick hosts a competitive Midway BM72 over 1800m on a Soft6 track with showers about, and the punters have zeroed in on a few key chances. Looking at the win market order, Columbus sits as the shortest runner, closely followed by Doradus, All Star, and Philatelic rounding out the top four in the early betting. It sets up an intriguing race where tactical maps and wet track form will tell the tale.

The shorter-priced runners bring some compelling form lines to this 1800m test. Columbus comes off a strong winning performance after getting back worse than midfield at Randwick-Kensington over today's trip, suggesting a bright future ahead under James Mc Donald for trainer L J Bridge. Meanwhile, Doradus is having a great preparation, having scored a great win from the deep gate at Canterbury before running a narrow second at Rosehill over 1800m. With Nash Rawiller steering from barrier 2, Doradus maps as the natural leader and gets the nod again. All Star also caught the eye last start when refusing to shirk the task in a 3yo+ BM72 over 1600m at this track, though this is a first try at 1800m for Tommy Berry and Fabio Martino's charge.

Further down the market, Philatelic for Richard Litt and Zac Lloyd comes off a strong win in a small field at Hawkesbury over 1600m and could give some cheek at odds, despite being unexposed at the trip. With Doradus holding down the leader speed group and runners like Columbus and Philatelic sitting off-pace, the race shapes as a proper test of stamina as the field heads down the Randwick straight.
