Ballarat plays host to the Hygain Edge Benchmark 62 over 1400m on a Heavy 8 surface with showers lingering around, setting up a proper test for the punters looking for a late winner at 5:00 pm AEDT. The win market order has M'Lady Rose sitting at the top of the betting boards, closely followed by Belcony, Vim Vitae, and Black Aces rounding out the early fancies in what shapes as a tricky puzzle on the wet track.

Taking a closer look at the form line, Black Aces comes into calculations for trainer C Maher with John Allen back in the saddle from barrier 8. This backmarker gave them a spanking at Warrnambool second-up and clocked the fastest overall finishing sectionals last time out, suggesting he will be rattling home late. Meanwhile, Belcony draws barrier 1 for Reece Goodwin and maps on pace, bringing solid distance form and a gutsy third in Benchmark 66 company at Sale on a heavy track into the yarn.

Further down the speed groups, M'Lady Rose maps as the leader from barrier 11 for T & C McEvoy with Luke Currie aboard, resuming from a twenty-two-week break over a distance where she has recorded her only career win to date. Vim Vitae brings Billy Egan to the steering wheel from barrier 3, looking to strip fitter after an effort at Bendigo.
