Welcome to Doomben for the Higgins Coatings Plate, a Class 3 showdown over the 1110m sprint trip on a good 4 surface under overcast skies. Punters eyeing the early win market have steered La Roja right to the top of the betting order, closely followed by No Fooling, Desanto, and Tasman Bay shaping up next in the line. It sets up a fascinating tactical yarn on the quick back-up for racegoers looking to unpack a tricky end to the meeting.

La Roja kicks off a fresh campaign here for Jack Bruce after transferring from Peter Snowden, bringing a strong rating of 100 into the mix and catching the eye first-up previously in good company. No Fooling lines up for T J Gollan with Ryan Maloney in the saddle, coming off a stylish course and distance win where it finished too well in a handicap. Resuming (19-weeks). Ex Peter Snowden in QLD. Went desperately close in Benchmark 72 company at Wyong first-up last prep while brought on by 2 trials. Tested against better opposition last prep. Major player.

First up after a break. Right in the mix last time at Ipswich and goes down in class. Will be dropping in distance. Worth a lot of thought in this race.

Ran a good race in defeat when a close runner-up in a Listed handicap (Ipswich) four months ago; returns from an absence here; starts out for new trainer; might find this company a little easier but others more likely.

Has won at this track; quite a while since she tasted success; not disgraced when seventh of 12 over 6f at Ballarat (handicap) in July; representing new stable today; passed over with several rivals in good nick.
