The Fisher Stakes has pulled together a lively Listed handicap field at Flemington over 1200 metres on a Good 4 track under showers at 2:30 pm AEDT. The market is led by a pair of runners who've posted strong recent efforts, with Hankee Alpha shortest at the head, followed by Inkaruna and Photograph. The race shapes as a test of early tempo given five runners are grouped in the onpace band—Arkansaw Kid, Grand Larceny, Grand Impact, Immortal Star, and Piastri—alongside three leaders in Sir Sway, Inkaruna, and Cripps. That's a lot of traffic jostling for position inside 200 metres, and the bravest punter in the field may well be the one who finds clear air.

Hankee Alpha looms as the early favourite after bolting in at Flemington two starts back at the same distance, though a shoeless run last weekend behind Ndola left him wanting. He maps into the midfield here and sits on a quick back-up, which the data suggests is a stronger third start in Australia than a second. Inkaruna, the second mob, carries form from last start at Flemington over 1100 metres where she was handy and acquitted herself well—a solid recent line on the Good 4. The AAP comment notes she's on the quick back-up and right in the mix, and her record when returning second-up (0-1-1 from three) doesn't scream confidence, though her first-up ledger is tidy at 1-1-1 from four. Photograph is a legitimate each-way play after storming from the tail Saturday, and the Hayes yard has been firing at 26 per cent profit on turnover lately.

Cripps warrants close attention as a first-up runner fresh off 22 weeks. The recent Hobart win (1200 metres) and Flemington run three back suggest he's a tidy operator, and jockey Billy Egan is 43 per cent above market expected in his last 100 rides—a rider in hot form. At barrier 11 with just 54 kilos, Cripps shapes as a genuine danger fresh. Piastri and Immortal Star from the onpace group both offer strong form narratives: Piastri's combination is performing at 98 per cent above market expectations, while Immortal Star's hot jockey-trainer pairing has been outperforming by 50 per cent. The showers could add another layer of unpredictability, but expect the leaders and onpace runners to set a genuine clip early.
