This is a wide-open affair across a field with modest recent form—only three runners carry a placed finish in their last ten starts—but there are genuine form stories worth unpacking beneath the odds.

Sondera sits shortest and the form suggests genuine reason. Rated 100 by IRD, this three-year-old ran a solid second-up at Kyneton, staying on doggedly behind a runaway winner after racing off the pace. That effort at 1479 metres came on Good 3, and the shift to Soft 5 over 1600 metres suits. Jye Mcneil holds a strong recent record, outperforming market expectations by 155 per cent with this stable, and from barrier three Sondera shapes as stripping fitter and ready to break through. Quemax, second favourite, carries early promise according to AAP comments—early form encouraging, a late rally at Sale at second appearance, and distance increase suits. The jump from 1400 metres to 1600 metres is ideal for a runner open to improvement after just two starts. Damien Thornton is 17 per cent better than his career average lately, a positive tick. Indicated early potential. Off pace, left in tearaway winner's wake but ran on doggedly for the runner up cheque at Kyneton second-up. Stripping fitter, top chance to go one better.
